How do social and spousal support influence postpartum depression?

Objective: Postpartum psychiatric morbidity is one of the most frequent complications birth, cause suicides and maternal death.We aimed to determine prevalence postpartum depression (PPD) among mothers who gave birth in last 6 months alsoassess risk factors, particularly poor social spousal support.Patients Methods: This a cross-sectional study. We included 303 attendingthree family health centers district Istanbul. Stratified sampling method was used. Edinburgh Depression Scale,Postpartum Support Scale, The Scale Perceived Spousal Among Women Early Period were administered.Univariate multivariate statistical analyses used.Results: 9.9% participants. According analysis; while ahigher income (OR : 0.99) higher support score (OR: 0.95) found as protective actively working :8.63),unplanned pregnancy 3.21), having first child compared two children 11.20), low weight infant(OR: 8.33) unmet 1.02) factors for PPD (p<0.05).Conclusion: Considering results this study, increasing income, support, prevention unplannedpregnancies using effective planning methods improving life prosperity women are essential decrease ofPPD prevalence.
